1970 VW Alternator, Fuel System Upgrades
I’ve done a good bit of work on the Bug lately, focusing on the fuel system and wiring.
I’ve got the new alternator working correctly. The idiot light has to work for the alternator to charge - I was trying to use an LED, which didn’t seem to complete the circuit correctly. Went to Radio Shack and got a small bulb-based light and things are just dandy. Solving the alternator problem also solved my speedo problems, so that’s good.
The fuel system has been hard to deal with because, with the Facet fuel pump I had, the engine was starving for fuel. So I upgraded to a Carter 4070 fuel pump with low pressure, high flow. But that brings problems with the size of existing fuel hoses and hard lines - too small. I’m currently getting that worked out, but it looks like the pump + a pressure regulator has solved my problems.
I also worked on the interior, installing German square-weave carpeting from JBugs, putting in retractable 3 point seatbelts, new bits & pieces + getting the seats cleaned up.
